Member vacancies are filled by election by the voters in March as terms expire. Alternate Member vacancies are filled by appointment by the Members. The term of office for both is three years.

The Belmont Planning Board consists of 7 members who are residents of the community, elected to serve 3-year terms. Three alternate members are appointed by the Planning Board to serve in place of members as necessary.

"The Planning Board encourages anyone interested in land use issues within the community to consider applying for openings on the board. A membership application is available. No prior experience is necessary."

Schedule
The Planning Board meets twice monthly on the 2nd and 4th Monday evenings, holding one Meeting for the purpose of public hearings and at least one work session to address other duties.
